Bettendorf blasts Urbandale in 4A quarterfinal, 64-33

DES MOINES - The Bettendorf Bulldogs are top-ranked for a reason.Nicholas Baer scored 19 points as Bett ripped Urbandale, 64-33, in a Class 4A state tournament quarterfinal Wednesday afternoon at Wells Fargo Arena. The Bulldogs (23-1) play Iowa City West (22-3) in a 1:30 Friday afternoon semifinal, a rematch of last season's championship game.Baer, a 6-foot-7 senior, was the Mississippi Athletic Conference's player of the year. He made 8 of 10 shots from the field and hauled down eight rebounds as Bettendorf ran to a 18-5 lead after a quarter and a 33-14 edge at halftime.Urbandale (14-11) never gave itself a chance, shooting just 20.8 percent from the field.
