B1G Numbers: Hawkeyes, Clemson last of the unbeaten

Nov. 22, 2015 11:07 am
The Big Ten got stood on its ear Saturday.
Everyone who had both Michigan State winning at Ohio State and Northwestern prevailing at Wisconsin, take a step forward.
Now, everyone else tackle them. Because they're big fibbers.
That said, on with this weekend's Big Ten numbers:
minus 26
— Wisconsin had minus-26 rushing yards in its 13-7 loss to Northwestern. Last year, the Badgers rushed for 284 yards against Northwestern. Last month, Iowa rushed for 294 yards at Northwestern.
1 —
Wisconsin backup quarterback Bart Houston threw one pass against Northwestern. It was an incompletion on 4th-and-goal from the Northwestern 11 with two seconds left, 13-7. Houston was in the game because Joel Stave had to sit out a play because of an injury.
2 —
Iowa and Clemson are the only unbeaten FBS teams.
3 —
Purdue's field goal with 25 seconds left of the second quarter of its 40-20 loss at Iowa were the first points the Hawkeyes have allowed this season in the last two minutes of the first half. Iowa has 44 such points.
4 —
Michigan State has won four straight games against Ohio State (1974, 1998, 2013, 2015) when the Buckeyes were undefeated after Nov. 1.
5 —
Five Big Ten teams are possibilities to go to bowls with 5-7 records. If the bowls can't fill their 80 slots with teams that are 6-6 or better, they'll dip into the 5-7 list. Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Nebraska are 5-6. Rutgers is 4-7. None play each other this week.
6 —
With its 17-14 win at Ohio State, Michigan State has won six of its last seven games against Top Ten teams.
8 —
Iowa running back LeShun Daniels has eight touchdowns in his last four games. He had none this season before that.
9 —
Penn State defensive end Carl Nassib's streak of games with quarterback sacks ended at 9. He only played in the first defensive series of the Nittany Lions' 28-16 loss to Michigan. He is the nation's leader in sacks with 15.5.
10 —
Michigan quarterback Jake Rudock threw two TD passes at Penn State, giving him 10 in his last three games.
13 —
Tight end Henry Krieger Coble's score on a 22-yard catch made him the 13th different Iowa player to score a touchdown.
15 —
Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott had just 12 carries for 33 yards against Michigan State. His streak of 100-yard games was ended at 15.
18 —
Maryland blew an 18-point lead and lost to Indiana, 47-28.
23 —
Ohio State's 23-game winning streak was halted Saturday. So was Urban Meyer's streak of 30 Big Ten regular-season games without a loss.
26 —
The average game-time temperature at games played at Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin was 25.7 degrees. It was 27 at Iowa, 22 at Minnesota, but the 25 mph wind at Iowa made it the coldest place in the conference.
30 —
Iowa has scored 30 or more points in five straight Big Ten games for the first time in school history.
35 —
Northwestern's Justin Jackson carried 35 times for 139 yards in the Wildcats' win at Wisconsin.
90 —
Illinois had 90 more yards than Minnesota. It also had 12 more first downs, 25 more offensive plays, and 11:20 more possession time than the Gophers. The Fighting Illini still lost to the Gophers, 32-23.
132 —
Ohio State managed a measly 132 yards against Michigan State. That was the worst offensive output by an Urban Meyer-coached team. The Buckeyes had only five first downs.
250 —
Maryland's Brandon Ross rushed for 250 yards. That didn't stop the Terps from becoming the first Big Ten team to lose to Indiana this season.
75,290
— Ohio State had 75,290 more fans at Ohio Stadium than Maryland had at its Byrd Stadium. The Michigan State-Ohio State game had an OSU-record 108,975. Just 33,685 bought tickets for Indiana-Maryland. All but the small pockets of fans for the visiting teams left disappointed.
