This will be rendered moot and perhaps foolish with a glaring omission or omissions two hours or so after it was published.
Nonetheless, in the name of useless busy work, I give you possible NCAA tournament opponents for the men's basketball teams of Iowa's three state schools:
IOWA
This assumes Iowa is a No. 7 or 8 seed.
BYU (25-9)
: Finished second to Gonzaga in the West Coast Conference at 13-5, lost to Gonzaga in the WCC tourney title game.
Davidson (24-7)
: Was the Atlantic 10 regular-season champ at 14-4, lost by 20 points to VCU in the league tourney semifinals.
Dayton (25-8)
: Tied for second in the Atlantic 10 at 13-5, lost to VCU 71-65 in Sunday's A-10 title game.
Georgia (21-11):
Tied for third in the SEC at 11-7.
Mississippi (20-12):
Tied for third in the SEC at 11-7.
Oklahoma State (18-13):
Was a humble 8-10 in the Big 12 and has lost six of its last seven games, but owns two wins over NCAA-bound Baylor and Texas, and one over Kansas.
San Diego State (26-8)
: Tied for the Mountain West regular-season championship at 14-4, lost to Wyoming in the MWC tourney final.
St. John's (21-11)
: Fifth in the Big East at 10-8. Just had Chris Obekpa suspended for two weeks. Obekpa averages 7.0 rebounds and 3.2 blocked shots.
IOWA STATE/NORTHERN IOWA
This assumes ISU is a No. 2 or 3 seed and UNI is a 4.
Albany (24-8):
Won the America East regular-season and tournament titles.
Belmont (22-10):
Tied for first in the Ohio Valley East at 11-5, then stunned Murray State (16-0 in the OVC) in the tournament final.
Buffalo (23-9):
Tied for first in the Mid-American East at 12-6, then won the league's tourney title.
Coastal Carolina (24-9)
: Tied for third in the Big South at 12-6, won the league's tournament.
Eastern Washington (26-8)
: Tied for first in the Big Sky, won the conference tourney.
Harvard (22-7)
: Beat Yale Saturday in the playoff game to determine the Ivy League's NCAA representative after the two shared the regular-season championship.
New Mexico State (22-10):
Won the Western Athletic Conference regular-season and tourney titles.
Northeastern (23-11)
: Tied for first in the Colonial Athletic Conference at 12-6, then won the league's tournament.
UAB (19-15):
Tied for fourth in Conference USA at 12-6, won the league tourney. Lost by 29 points to Wisconsin and 31 to North Carolina.
UC Irvine (25-6):
Tied for second in the Big West at 11-5, won the conference tournament.
Valparaiso (28-5):
Won the Horizon regular-season and tourney titles.
Wofford (28-6)
: Swept the Southern Conference's regular-season and tournament championships.
Wyoming (25-9):
Tied for fourth in the Mountain West at 11-7, upset San Diego State in the MWC title game.
