Area gymnasts capture regional titles

MARION'S CULVER WINS REGIONAL TITLE

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Lily Culver of Marion, a member of the Iowa Gymnastics Academy, won the floor exercise in the Junior B division and placed third in the beam, helping the Iowa 'Super 8” team to a title at the Region IV Gymnastics Championships last weekend at Lindenwood University.

A sixth-grader at Oakridge Middle School, Culver also placed on the bars and all around in a meet that featured gymnasts from Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Team Iowa consisted of four gymnasts from Chows Gymnastics in West Des Moines, two from Triad in Ankeny one from Success in Ames. Elise Smith from Twisters in Hiawatha was the alternate.

Grace Hartzler from IGA also won a regional title, capturing the floor exercise, and placed in four other events. Other IGA placewinners were Brooke Netcott, Chloe Sarver and Mercedes Crile. Sarver qualified for the Western Nationals.

3 FROM CRAG WIN AT REGIONALS

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Carly Mark of the Cedar Rapids Association of Gymnastics captured the beam and all around and teammates Lauren Freuhling (all around) and Maya Deuso (beam) also won individual gold at the Region IV Gymnastics Championships last weekend.

Jenna Danninger and Kareena McSweeny of CRAG also qualified for the Western Championships in Missoula, Mont., later this month.

Kyleigh Garcia also placed for CRAG.

TWISTERS' PETERSON WINS REGIONAL GOLD

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Alexis Peterson, a Level 9 competitor for Twisters Gymnastics in Hiawatha, qualified for Western Nationals last this month by winning the floor exercise and placing third on the bars at the Region IV Gymnastics Championships.

Allyson Steffensmeier, in Level 10, placed in the bars and all around and qualified for the national meet in Fort Worth, Texas.

Alexis Sands, Level 9, also qualified for Western Nationals by placing in the vault, beam and all around, and Emily Crumbo and Samantha Triplet placed in Level 8.

26 FROM MOSERS WIN IN TUMBLING

Twenty-six members of the Moser School of Dance and Gymnastic won title last month at a USTA Power Tumbling meet that included around 450 athletes from 16 teams.

Winners were Katie Boeding, Jacob Gasper, Gertrude Wall, Hanna Marting, Breanna Vaske, Michelle Stelken, Hannabelle Erickson, Amiya Birkel, Cooper Ingles, Logan Bevans, Maddesyn Demmer, Madison Butterworth, Ava Steger, Zoe Walz, Kaydence Ahart, Kaiden Belinsky, Ava Bilden, Taylor Mullis, Mattie Johnson, Miley Walz, Taylor Kitner, Madilyn Payne, Kyle Peck, Kaia Engelhardt, Mya Ortner and Kalyssa Reimer.

Noa Marting placed second, along with Ella Marting, Taylor Guthrie, Kennedi McGarvey, Sarah VanDeWalle, Melanie Lutgen, Leah Ries, Cheyenne Varner, Brooklin Ante, Claire Jaeger, Claire Hillebrand, Abby Cook, Claire Cahalan, Micah Brase, Nolan Urbain, Kreighton Peck, Mollie Schaefers, Alexa Ries, Lena Petlon, Gracie Hillebrand, Paul Morris, Brody Ries, Tenley Bormann, Kaleah Belinsky, Lainey Payne and Savannah Freese.

Third-place finishers were Cierra Weipert, Emma Marting, Maya Clasen, Gracie Abitz, Kennedy Collins, Ana Beatty, Rachel Clayberg, Reagan Brown, Sophia Geistkemper, Avery Sweeney, Ella Glawatz, Elizabeth Recker, Kate Green, Keely Recker, Lilee Borisky, Grace Funke, Tiegen O'Hea, Kaya Knipper, McKenna Wilgenbusch, Makenna Payne and Ella Recker.
