Cedar Rapids runner Chris Wolfe is off on his fourth running vacation, blogging every day at http://runnershighheartland.wordpress.com/
Here is an excerpt from Day 3 of his trip:
“Mackinac Island!” That's what the excited three-year-old said, as she sat on her mother's lap. “Mackinac Island! Mackinac Island!” She repeated again. I shared her excitement but I hadn't exclaimed it out loud – my fellow Shepler's Ferry passengers would think of me as weird.
Viewing it from the mainland and Mackinaw City, it just looks like a dark strip of land. There are a lot of great things hidden in that darkness. It is steeped in history and its romantic aura makes it a popular honeymoon destination. Mackinac Island, Michigan, is unique in many ways. I know it as a perfect workout venue.
Automobiles (aka cars) can sometimes be a challenge for runners. Some get a little too daring for their own good…runners, that is. I've taken a few too many chances myself and am fortunate to have only been hit once – it was by an ambulance… But fear not runners, there is a place where you can hit the roads and never have to yield to a car! It's Mac Island.
