Aldo injury postpones Koch's pursuit of world title

Jun. 11, 2012 1:11 pm
Cedar Rapids native Erik Koch was one win away from wrapping a world title belt around his waist. Now, he does not have a fight.
Koch, 23, was scheduled to face world featherweight champion Jose Aldo in the headline bout of UFC 149 at Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, on Saturday, July 21. An undisclosed injury to Aldo has scratched the match from the card. A bantamweight fight between Urijah Faber and Renan Barao will replace Aldo-Koch as the card's main event.
There has been no report of whether or not Koch will still fight on the card. It is also unknown whether Koch will get the opportunity to take on Aldo at a later date.
Koch has won his last four bouts, improving to 13-1.
