Feb. 16, 2011 4:36 pm
DES MOINES - Alburnett's Colton Martin needed some extra time, but finally earned the desired outcome.Eighth-ranked Martin scored a takedown in overtime, adding back points for a 7-2 win over No. 5 Brandon Chestnut of West Monona in a first-round match at 130 pounds of the Iowa High School Athletic Class 1A state wrestling tournament at Wells Fargo Arena.“It's always a fight for six minutes,” said Martin, improving to 42-3. “That just happened to be a little longer than six minutes.”Martin tied it, 2-2, with an escape in the third. He hit a fireman's carry in sudden victory that didn't produce a score, but the following scramble did.“That's my go-to move,” Martin said. “He did a good job countering it. He rolled around and tried to hip over and I just put him to his back.”Instead of celebrating, Martin went for the fall, trying to secure points for the Pirates, who are looking to claim their second-straight team trophy.“That's our goal,” Martin said. “We want to take home first and improve from last year's third.”
