CEDAR RAPIDS - Coming into the season, Cedar Rapids Prairie was expected to be middle-of-the-road team in the Mississippi Valley Conference.
After a third-place finish at the Mississippi Division meet it hosted at Airport National, things are looking better for the Hawks.
'It feels good to be in the race for the conference,” said senior Mitch Lorenz. 'It's good to be in the upper half of the division, but we would like to be higher.”
The divisional meet was a great opportunity for the Hawks to gain a few strokes on their competition.
'Our beset golf is ahead of us,” Coach Erik Columbus said.
'We work really hard in practice,” Lorenz said.
For the Hawks to make a postseason run, they feel it's all in the preparation for each tournament.
'We all get along well,” Lorenz said, noting because he's a senior he can help the younger golfers figure out each course. 'we have not met our full potential as a team yet this year.”
