Aaron White will play for Russian team

Jul. 29, 2016 12:54 pm
Former University of Iowa basketball star Aaron White is taking his skills to St. Petersburg. As in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Via text, White confirmed Friday that he will play professionally for Zenit St. Petersburg in the VTB United League. He recently completed Las Vegas Summer League play for the Washington Wizards, who picked him in the second round of the 2015 NBA draft.
White played last season for a team in Bonn, Germany. He returned to the U.S. with the hopes of earning a spot in the Wizards' fall camp and, subsequently, their 2016-17 roster. He averaged 7.2 points and 5.2 rebounds in five Summer League games.
But he got a two-year contract offer with Zenit, with the second year a team option. There is an NBA buyout clause should White get an offer from that league.
'I'm really excited to continue my career in Europe and play at this high of a level for St. Petersburg,” White said. 'Zenit is a very successful team and I look forward to contributing to them.”
