Here is a look at some of the key high school football games this week.
C.R. JEFFERSON at LINN-MAR
- Time & place: 7:15 p.m., at Armstrong Field
- Records: Jefferson is 1-6; Linn-Mar is 6-1
- Notable: The seventh-ranked Lions suffered their first loss of the season last week. Jer Garman's rushing total stands at 1,201 yards on 140 carries. Tanner Unkel (650 yards rushing, 13 receptions) fuels Jefferson's attack.
C.R. WASHINGTON at DUBUQUE SENIOR
- Time & place: 7:15 p.m., at Dalzell Field, Dubuque
- Records: Washington is 5-2; Senior is 1-6
- Notable: The explosive Warriors are really starting to hum offensively. They scored 136 points in their last three games - all wins, and they figure to put a lot of points on the board tonight. Andre Dawson has rushed for 1,274 yards and 18 touchdowns.
DUBUQUE HEMPSTEAD at C.R. KENNEDY
- Time & place: 7:15 p.m., at Kingston Stadium
- Records: Hempstead is 5-2; Kennedy is 3-4
- Notable: Kennedy snapped a three-game losing streak with a 28-0 win over Waterloo West, and the Cougars hope that propels them into a late-season surge. Max Martino has caught 31 passed for 318 yards.
IOWA CITY WEST at C.R. XAVIER
- Time & place: 7:15 p.m., at Saints Field
- Records: West is 3-4; Xavier is 5-2
- Notable: With four consecutive wins (all in convincing fashion), 10th-rated Xavier is the hottest 4A Metro team. Joe Sayre ranks fifth in Class 4A passing, with 1,274 yards. Colin O'Connor and Ryan Sander have caught 40 and 31 passes, respectively. West has won three of its last four games to move into solid postseason contention.
C.R. PRAIRIE at CEDAR FALLS
- Time & place: 7:15 p.m., at the UNI-Dome, Cedar Falls
- Records: Prairie is 3-4; Cedar Falls is 5-2
- Notable: Cedar Falls kept its divisional title hopes alive with a 26-12 upset of Linn-Mar. Prairie has dropped three straight games after a 3-1 start. The Hawks have been beaten soundly at the line of scrimmage recently.
WATERLOO WEST at IOWA CITY HIGH
- Time & place: 7:15 p.m., at Bates Field, Iowa City
- Records: West is 2-5; City High is 7-0
- Notable: Top-ranked City High wrapped up the MVC Mississippi Division championship last week with a 34-0 victory over Cedar Rapids Prairie. Ellis Jordan has rushed for 749 yards while Iowa recruit A.J. Derby has passed for 950 yards and rushed for 427.
MAQUOKETA at MARION
- Time & place: 7:30 p.m., at Thomas Park Field
- Radio: KGYM-AM (1600)
- Records: Both teams are 7-0 overall, 5-0 3A-4
- Notable: The number of 3A-4 unbeatens fell from three to two when No. 5 Marion downed Union, 37-9, last week, setting up this game for sole leadership of the district. Logan Pickering has 24 touchdowns this season (20 rushing, 4 receiving). Zach Scheibe and Colin Nickeson have rushed for 700 yards apiece for No. 7 Maquoketa, which has improved drastically since a 4-5 season last year.
NORTH FAYETTE at CASCADE
- Time & place: 7:30 p.m., at Cascade
- Radio: WMT-AM (600)
- Records: Both teams are 7-0 overall, 5-0 2A-4
- Notable: This game determines the 2A District 4 champion.
SOLON at I.C. REGINA
- Time & place: 7:30 p.m., at Regina
- Radio: KXIC-AM (800)
- Records: Both teams are 7-0 overall, 5-0 2A-5
- Notable: Solon takes a No. 1 ranking and a 34-game winning streak into its toughest game of the season, one which will determine the 2A-5 champ. These teams possess two of the best defenses in 2A. Solon is allowing 4.7 points per game, No. 3 Regina 5.0.
ELKADER CENTRAL at WAPSIE VALLEY
- Time & place: 7 p.m., at Fairbank
- Radio: KCTN-FM (100.1)
- Records: Central is 7-0 overall, 5-0 A-4; Wapsie Valley is 6-1, 5-0
- Notable: To the winner goes the A-4 championship.
