A look at the 2011 fall golf season

C.R. Kennedy: The Cougars are looking to continue their success after reaching the state meet each of the last four years, including top-four finishes the last three that was capped by a runner-up result in 2010. Cody Bell, who was fourth individually, Brigham Stewart, Mitchell Martin and Harrison Moore all return with state experience. Kennedy should still be able to field a balanced six-player team with the returners able to post low scores.
C.R. Xavier: Xavier is coming off a solid season where it finished behind a strong Cedar Falls for the MVC Valley Division title. The Saints are led by J.P. King and Jason Beer, and are the team's top returners. Success might just depend on a group of young golfers, who were nearly flawless at the sophomore level (25-1). Coach Tim O'Brien expects the young players to compete for starting spots and contribute to the varsity this season.
Iowa City High: The Little Hawks had a bitter sweet ending to last season. City High earned a state tournament berth, but walked away with an 11th-place finish in the 12-team field. The good news is four of those golfers return. Juniors Nate Goddard and Grant Simpson posted two of the Little Hawks top-three scores at state and seniors Ryan Duncan and Trent Bedford also played. The experience will help motivate them for a better end result.
Linn-Mar: The Lions are the only Metro team besides Kennedy to reach the fall state golf meet since 2004. They will attempt to get back with their last appearance in 2009. Linn-Mar has a good group to build around from a year ago, including Trevor Berry and Tyler McCann, who both were part of that last state meet team. Berry was a first-team all-Metro selection while McCann was a second-teamer last year. It also helps to have Senior City Amateur champ Steve Kahler as coach.
Cody Bell, C.R. Kennedy, sr.: Bell placed fourth at the Class 4A state meet last year. He was first-time all-state, all-Mississippi Valley Conference and all-Metro.
Trevor Berry, Linn-Mar, sr.: Berry was a first-team all-Metro selection, earning all-MVC honors. Played on Lions 2009 state tournament squad.
J.P. King, C.R. Xavier, sr.: King was a first-team all-Metro selection and earned all-MVC honors last season. He should be a top performer for the Saints.
Eric Lehmkuhl, C.R. Jefferson, sr.: Lehmkuhl was a first-team all-MVC golfer and was a second-team all-Metro selection.
Mitchell Martin, C.R. Kennedy, sr.: Martin was first-team all MVC and all-Metro last year. He also competed in the 2010 state meet.
Grant Simpson, Iowa City High, jr.: Simpson was a second-team all-MVC golfer and scored for the Little Hawks at the state tournament last season.
Brigham Stewart, C.R. Kennedy, sr.: Stewart tied for 12th at the 2010 state meet. He earned first-team all-MVC and all-Metro honors as a junior.
