Here are area glances for Monday's second-round playoff football games:
CEDAR RAPIDS KENNEDY at NORTH SCOTT (4A)
Time & place: 7 p.m., at Eldridge
Records: Kennedy is 6-4; North Scott is 9-1.
Notable: Upsets littered the 4A playoff landscape in the first round, and Kennedy's 11-7 triumph over Cedar Rapids Xavier was one of the surprises. The Cougars held Xavier to 61 rushing yards on 36 carries and forced six turnovers in picking up its fifth straight win. Trevor Heitland's 4-yard touchdown run with 1:11 left provided the winning points. No. 7 North Scott waxed Iowa City West, 31-0, in the first round for its first playoff win in school history.
LINN-MAR at IOWA CITY HIGH (4A)
Time & place: 7 p.m., at Bates Field
Records: Linn-Mar is 8-2; City High is 10-0.
Notable: These teams met in Week 8, with City High scoring three fourth-quarter touchdowns to pull away and win, 47-32. Second-ranked City High's win streak now stands at 24, thanks to a second-half surge in the first round against Davenport Central. The Little Hawks exploded for 28 third-quarter points and handled Davenport Central, 49-13. No. 9 Linn-Mar was unstoppable Wednesday in shattering Pleasant Valley, 63-14. The Lions scored on their first play from scrimmage and got touchdowns on all of their first seven possessions.
WEST DELAWARE at CLEAR LAKE (3A)
Time & place: 7 p.m., at Clear Lake
Records: West Delaware is 8-2; Clear Lake is 10-0.
Notable: Both teams turned in excellent defensive efforts and advanced by two touchdowns in the first round. West Delaware took down Ballard, 20-6, limiting the Bombers to 52 yards. Brandon Domeyer scored a pair of touchdowns. No. 2 Clear Lake faced a deficit for the first time all season - 7-6 heading into the fourth quarter - before rallying past Oelwein, 21-7, making the Huskies the eighth team they have held to one touchdown or less.
WAVERLY-SHELL ROCK at DECORAH (3A)
Time & place: 7 p.m., at Decorah
Records: Waverly-Shell Rock is 9-1; Decorah is 8-2.
Notable: Two of the three co-champions of Class 3A District 4 (along with West Delaware). Decorah was awarded the top spot in the district based on points despite a late-season 30-28 loss to the Go-Hawks. Decorah enjoyed the comforts of the UNI-Dome in the first round, building a 28-6 halftime lead and dispatching Boone, 42-14. No. 8 Waverly-Shell Rock won with surprising ease, 37-6, at No. 9 Webster City.
CLEAR CREEK AMANA at WILLIAMSBURG (3A)
Time & place: 7 p.m., at Williamsburg
Records: CCA is 6-4; Williamsburg is 9-1.
Notable: Class 3A District 6 teams swept their District 5 foes in the first round. The most surprising of the four games was Clear Creek Amana's 22-15 conquest of former unbeaten Union, particularly considering the poor weather and CCA's penchant to pass. Down 15-7 heading into the fourth quarter, the Clippers got late scores from Josh Rohret (22-yard reception) and Dylan Villhauer (10-yard run). No. 7 Williamsburg, which beat CCA 35-23 in the regular season, roared past Maquoketa, 56-27, Wednesday.
GRINNELL at SOLON (3A)
Time & place: 7 p.m., at Solon
Records: Grinnell is 8-2; Solon is 9-1.
Notable: Solon has been golden in the postseason since 2007; the Spartans have won 15 straight playoff games in a run that netted three consecutive 2A titles. No. 4 Solon won their 3A playoff debut Wednesday, rolling past DeWitt Central, 38-8. Marshall Koehn kicked a field goal and five PATs, and added a touchdown on a fumble recovery. Grinnell, meanwhile, blanked Marion, 10-0. Solon defeated the Tigers, 17-10, to wrap up the 3A-6 championship.
DYERSVILLE BECKMAN at WATERLOO COLUMBUS (2A)
Time & place: 7 p.m., at Waterloo
Records: Both teams are 8-2.
Notable: After starting 0-2, No. 10 Columbus has won eight straight games (including a 42-7 romp over MFL MarMac in the first round) and claimed a district championship. The Sailors got five touchdowns from Lamar Sayles on Wednesday. Beckman had to scratch and claw to outlast Clarion-Goldfield, 22-20, in overtime. Connor Golden's 1-yard run with 38 seconds left in regulation tied the game.
SUMNER-FREDERICKSBURG at NORTH FAYETTE (2A)
Time & place: 7 p.m., at West Union
Records: Sumner-Fredericksburg is 6-4; North Fayette is 10-0.

Jake Greco rushed for 250 yards on 30 carries and scored three touchdowns. Sumner-Fredericksburg advanced with a 21-13 triumph over Iowa Falls. The Cougars played North Fayette more competitively than anyone this season, dropping a 21-14 decision in Week 7.
MEDIAPOLIS at IOWA CITY REGINA (2A)
Time & place: 7 p.m., at Regina
Records: Mediapolis is 8-2; Regina is 10-0.
Notable: Both teams advanced with first-round shutouts. No. 1 Regina dominated on both sides of the ball, as a 53-0 rout of Albia would indicate. The Regals scored 39 first-half points and outgained their guests by a 397-26 yard margin. Regina passed only three times on a windy night and racked up 346 yards on the ground. Mediapolis handled Durant, 28-0, scoring a touchdown in every quarter.
CAMANCHE at SIGOURNEY-KEOTA (2A)
Time & place: 7 p.m., at Sigourney
Records: Camanche is 8-2; Sigourney-Keota is 10-0.
Notable: Camanche might be the biggest feel-good story around Iowa this year. The Indians snapped a 38-game losing streak earlier this season, and the wins have kept coming. Camanche dropped Davis County, 22-12, Wednesday for its first postseason win in school history. Mike Sullens rushed for 157 yards and three touchdowns. No. 4 Sigourney-Keota is a much more veteran playoff outfit. The Savage Cobras got three touchdowns from Evan Hammes in a 35-0 blistering of West Liberty.
NORTH CEDAR at STARMONT (1A)
Time & place: 7 p.m., at Arlington
Records: North Cedar is 9-1; Starmont is 10-0.
Notable: Five days after suffering their first loss of the season, ninth-rated North Cedar rebounded using its best weapon - its defense. The Knights posted their eighth shutout of the year and defeated Turkey Valley, 7-0. Mitch Schroeder recovered a fumble deep in TV territory, then Donny Wachendorf scored on a 5-yard TD run. No. 7 Starmont handled Alburnett, 54-14, behind Vinnie Otdoerfer's 168 yards and three touchdowns.
WAPSIE VALLEY at WEST BRANCH (1A)
Time & place: 7 p.m., at West Branch
Records: Wapsie Valley is 8-2; West Branch is 9-0.
Notable: Despite Wednesday's weather, No. 4 West Branch managed 368 yards of offense, including 259 on the ground, in a 35-13 first-round win over Clayton Ridge. Cade Jones netted 156 yards. Wapsie Valley features one of the state's best small-school backs in Connor O'Brien, who got loose for 328 yards on 24 carries and four first-half touchdowns in the Warriors' 35-0 rout of Wapello.
POSTVILLE at MASON CITY NEWMAN (A)
Time & place: 7 p.m., at Mason City
Records: Postville is 8-2; Newman is 10-0.
Notable: Newman flip-flopped with Madrid for the No. 1 spot through much of the regular season; the Knights closed at No. 2. Newman built a 35-0 lead against Valley Community before settling for a 35-14 win behind Ben Buffington, the school's season- and career-leading rusher. Postville advanced with a 43-13 romp over Colo-Nesco, and will take aim at the Knights for the second time in 10 days - Newman won, 42-14, in Week 9.
ELKADER CENTRAL at NORTH TAMA (A)
Time & place: 7 p.m., at Traer
Records: Central is 7-3; North Tama is 10-0.
Notable: No. 3 North Tama clinched a district title when it defeated the Warriors, 35-0, in Week 9. The teams meet again, with survival on the line. North Tama fell into a 6-0 hole in the first round against North Butler, but scored the next 41 points and cruised, 41-14. The Redhawks have posted six shutouts. Central knocked off No. 8 Rockford, 34-28, in the first round when Zack Tade scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 19-yard reception. Matt Backes ran for 218 yards and a TD.

Time & place: 7 p.m., at Wayland
Records: HLV is 6-4; WACO is 10-0.
Notable: HLV will try to avenge an opening-week 20-7 loss to No. 4 WACO. HLV advanced by defeating Lone Tree, 35-24. breaking open a close game in the fourth quarter. WACO routed Iowa Valley, 57-7 in the opening round and is averaging a robust 41.7 points per game.
LISBON at BGM (A)
Time & place: 7 p.m., at Brooklyn
Records: Lisbon is 8-2; BGM is 9-1.
Notable: Ninth-rated Lisbon needed a fourth-quarter touchdown from Tait Simpson (a 1-yard run in the final minute) to push past Belle Plaine, 22-15, and advance. No. 6 BGM was a district champion, and played the part of dominant host in a 48-6 thumping of English Valleys. The Bears have won nine straight games since an opening-week loss to 2A No. 1 Iowa City Regina, and all nine victories have come by 20 points or more.
Aaron Hunter tries to sneak past Plesent Valley's Seth Haidsiak in their Wednesday October 27, 2010 playoff game at Linn-Mar High School. The Linn-Mar Lions defeated the Spartans 63-14. (Becky Malewitz/The Gazette)
