3 Trojans earn all-state honors

Iowa City West's Class 3A state championship run is rewarded today with three first-team picks on the Iowa Girls Coaches Association all-state soccer team.
Sophomores Emma Cooper and Regan Steigleder were joined on the first team by junior Payton Pottratz. Only West Des Moines Dowling, with four, had more first-team picks.
Cooper and Steigleder both scored 24 points for the Trojans. Pottratz had eight goals and 10 assists.
Also selected to the Class 3A first team were Linn-Mar's Olivia Garcia and Cedar Rapids Kennedy's Sydney Hayden. Garcia led the Lions with 20 goals. Hayden scored 16 times with 14 assists. Both Kennedy and Linn-Mar lost in the first round of the state tournament.
In Class 1A, Union Community's Courtney Powell and Dayton Powell were honored with first-team selection. Powell scored an impressive 66 goals this year and Dayton scored 23 times with 24 assists.
Clear Creek Amana's Hannah Bormann, Solon's Josie Durr and Iowa City Regina's Jenny Wick also were selected to the 1A first team. Bormann had 38 goals this year. Regina beat Union in the first round of the state tournament, but lost in the second round to Nevada, 3-1.
No area players were named to the Class 2A first team, but Cedar Rapids Xavier's Grace McDermott earned second-team honors.
