Jeff Linder Aug. 20, 2010 10:31 am
MARION -- Linn-Mar enjoyed a breakout season in 2009, winning a Mississippi Valley Conference championship, compiling a 9-2 record and advancing to the first round of the Class 4A playoffs. The key last year was a huge offensive line. Coach Bob Forsyth said this year's line won't be as big, but could be more athletic. That line will be blocking for all-state running back Jer Garman, who rushed for 1,861 yards on 218 carries and scored 29 rushing touchdowns. He added three receiving TDs.Linn-Mar will play its final season at Armstrong Field before moving to a new state-of-the-art facility in 2011. The Lions open Aug. 27 at home against Cedar Rapids Jefferson. The schedule turns nasty in the final three weeks of the season; the Lions close with Cedar Rapids Washington, Iowa City High and Cedar Rapids Xavier.
