2010 football preview: Cedar Rapids Washington

CEDAR RAPIDS -- Frequent busing miles won't be necessary for the Cedar Rapids Washington football team this season.Washington plays five of its first six games at Kingston Stadium and leaves town just twice -- at Dubuque Wahlert on Sept. 17 and at Waterloo West on Oct. 22, the last week of the season.The Warriors, ranked No. 10 in the first Associated Press poll of the season, were 9-3 last season. They advanced to the quarterfinal round of the playoffs last year before falling to eventual state champion Iowa City High, 35-14.City High comes to Kingston on Sept. 30. The Little Hawks are one of only two teams on Washington's schedule that compiled a winning record in 2009. Washington is at Linn-Mar on Oct. 8.Washington graduated four first-team all-staters. Coach Tony Lombardi (5th year, 34-11) welcomes back Division-I prospect Alex Carr. The Warriors will be skilled and speedy, but young. The season opens Friday at Kingston, against Cedar Rapids Prairie.
