    About Greg’s Lawn and Landscaping

    We are going on our 41st year this season! It all started with a little push mower that now stands at the front of our office. Gradually, the company grew and added more services, areas that we service, and, most importantly, our team members who are family to us. As the years go on, we still hold our family atmosphere and morals dear to our hearts. We strive to exceed expectations and build lasting relationships with our team members and clients.

    We do everything from mowing, patios, retaining walls, outdoor living spaces, hardscapes, softscapes, fertilization/weed control, irrigation, and trucking to snow and ice management. Both residential and commercial clients can lean on us to take care of their property better than the rest!

    Describe your company’s culture in three words.

    Family. Safety. Passionate.

    What do these words mean in everyday practice?

    We work every day to curate a family-oriented culture. We find that we can accomplish anything when our team treats each other with respect and collaborates. Our number one concern is the safety of our team and clients. Following protocols, policies, and procedures ensures a safe working environment, avoiding accidents. Passion is essential; without passion for their work, the team would fall short every time. We love to find team members passionate about their jobs because they will excel and be set up for success. Family, safety, and passion are what we focus on to create our company culture.

    How can someone continue to grow their skillsets and professional path while working for your company?

    Where there is a will, there is a way. We encourage and provide guidance and opportunities to employees with the will to learn and expand their skill set. All paths are individual to each team member. We guide, train, and help them along with their aspirations. We want every member to be happy to show up and do their job with pride. Here, we provide a career, not just a job.

    What does work-life balance look like for employees within your organization?

    Family is a huge aspect of this company and why growth has been a part of it. A work-life balance is valued. We strive to work with our teams as best we can to ensure they can be home to their families. Typically, our crews work a 4-day work week and can be off to enjoy a 3-day weekend and be home every night.

    We work with our team members when they have important things in life, like going to their kid's soccer game or even making it to a dentist appointment; whatever it is, we work hard and play hard.

    Please share a recent employee success story. What set this person up for success, and what does their success mean for the company?

    It is too hard to pick just one success story when we are blessed to have so many. We have over a dozen employees who have been with us for over ten years and even employees with over 20 years consecutively. These employees are the heart of this company and what has led us to such growth.

    They have been with us through all the learning, challenges, and changes as a company grows. They have careers they love and an environment they thrive in, and they continue to learn something new every day. They are the pillars of this company, and we could not be prouder of our team.

    What is your company's position regarding philanthropy and community engagement?

    We are big on community and support many in it. We sponsor local places such as the Cedar Rapids Kernels, Cedar Rapids Rough Riders, KGAN CBS2, Variety Club, Toys for Tots, charity events, and more. We believe the more good you put into the world, the more it returns to you. We are always looking for opportunities to do more for those around us.

    How are innovation and creativity encouraged in the workplace?

    We love having people think outside the box and encourage new ideas. We are always down to try something new and see if there is a better way to do something. We build and create many of our tools, vehicles, and equipment, and we need innovation and the willingness to try new things to have some of the great tools that make our jobs safer and more efficient. If an employee has an idea, we are all ears to hear it. Learning and making changes are the best part to success.

    What would be a typical response if asked why an employee enjoys working at your company?

    The people. It is always the people we all love with whom we work daily. If you don't, it makes the days long. We can't express how amazing and inviting our team is. The next best thing is when our team works with the best equipment and tools. Our employees know they can do anything that can make doing a job easier or safer.
