Describe your company’s culture in three words. What do these words mean in everyday practice?
Supportive- “At Mediacom, you get a family-oriented environment that fosters team spirit. You don’t want to let each other down.”
– Evelyn, Senior Analyst in Accounting
Joining the Mediacom family equips you with unparalleled support on your journey to success. Open-door communication, upward mobility, and career growth are natural testaments to the strength of that policy in action. Why not work at a place that recognizes and rewards hard work?
Dependable- Where other companies are laying people off, Mediacom is hiring more people. We have been in business since 1995 and continue to grow and expand into more markets. "Mediacom ensures we have all the support and tools to succeed, including the tools to grow and continue to feel successful." -Amy, Recruiter.
Diversity- “We all have our differences but respect each other, and everybody participates. It’s a very good work atmosphere.”
– George, Technical Operations Manager
We believe it takes all kinds of people to thrive in today’s world. Looking around Mediacom, you’ll find diverse cultures, ages, genders, creeds, and personalities. We appreciate those differences and are proud to better serve our communities through them.
How can someone continue to grow their skillsets and professional path while working for your company?
We provide on-the-job paid training with tons of growth potential! Our Building Blocks training program allows you to take up to 3 NCTI courses each year with a 25-cent hourly wage increase for each of those courses. The first three promotions in Broadband are self-guided. If you meet the minimum tenure and pass the required training courses and field tests, you automatically receive the promotion and the associated wage increase. Mediacom also offers up to $5000 a year for tuition reimbursement for people looking to expand their education.
“We all have access to Mediacom University, which helps us understand the cable world and Mediacom culture.”
– Luke, On-Media Account Lead
We provide comprehensive hands-on training for our Installation, Sales, and Customer Service and support teams. And that’s just scratching the surface. We also have Mediacom University, our extensive orientation and preparation system, which acquaints you with the cable world from the ground up. We’ll even pay you to develop and further your skills through industry certification and training, tuition reimbursement, and technology classes. Add in on-the-job training and continued development, creating a world-class training environment.
What does work-life balance look like for employees within your organization?
Mediacom provides each full-time employee with 104 hours of paid time off in their first year, and it goes up from there. That is in addition to the seven paid holidays. We also have many fun company activities, such as holiday parties, summer picnics, and other periodic outings.
Joining our family offers many advantages. In addition to the rewarding feeling of serving your community, you’ll be challenged to advance in your career while enjoying a generous benefits package designed to be flexible and relevant to your needs.
Please share a recent employee success story. What set this person up for success, and what does their success mean for the company?
I hired a person two years ago as a Broadband Specialist I. He had no experience but wanted to grow and learn. His supervisors and others encouraged him to take courses through our program. He has just moved into a position with our Maintenance department and has increased his wage by approximately 50%. Our Building Blocks training program and our desire to primarily promote from within help build stronger and more knowledgeable leaders from the inside. Providing people with the ability to improve themselves ultimately improves the company.
What is your company's position when it comes to philanthropy and community engagement?
We're committed to promoting higher education with resources rooted in our customers' communities. We maintain the annual World Class Scholarship Program for the public, the annual September 11th Memorial Scholarship fund for 50 children of our employees, and the Mediacom Entrepreneur of Tomorrow Award. We're proud to promote minority interests in media in partnership with the Emma Bowen Foundation.
Thanks to our Video-on-Demand system, we can offer our Iowa digital service subscribers GED coursework and materials, including test preparation. Our outstanding internship program allows local students to gain practical experience in a professional and motivating environment.
At Mediacom, you'll find a rich history of philanthropic giving in the spirit of community partnership. Our ongoing, company-wide Food Drives and American Red Cross Blood Drives contribute life-saving supplies to critical relief efforts. We're proud to participate in Lee Denim Day with a company-wide contribution, placing Mediacom within the Top 25 donors every year since 2009.
Through our corporate "Adopt a Unit" drive, we've provided soldiers in Afghanistan with much-needed supplies and holiday cheer. Mediacom is thrilled to provide airtime for the people and communities supporting our service. MC22, our exclusively local channel, provides a space for in-state production teams to develop programming focused on the voices of our communities.
We offer complimentary programming for local sports, including the Hawkeye Network, the Cyclone Network, and the MC22 Student-Athlete Spotlight. Our "Say Yes to the Dress" program brings high school girls together with area stylists to receive new dresses and makeovers, develop mentoring relationships, and build self-confidence.
How is innovation and creativity encouraged in the workplace?
“The managers have an open-door policy. It’s a good team-building environment.”
– Natalie, Call Center Trainer
We value your input as an invaluable tool for Mediacom’s progress and growth. You’ll get the support you need. In turn, managers are quick to offer decisive feedback as the situation requires, keeping you informed and always prepared. Mutual respect is huge around here. As a tech-based company, we thrive on creativity and ingenuity. What we offer our communities is ever-growing, and we love to hear from all our employees about ways to advance and improve.
If asked why an employee enjoys working at your company, what would be a typical response?
Most people would respond, "It feels like family." I have heard this repeatedly. Our leadership is second to none, and we take immense pride in supporting each other's growth both within the organization and outside of it. This company has such a deep sense of work-life balance.
