SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- Briar Cliff's Liz Crimmins broke a scoreless tie in the 93rd minute to give the Chargers a 1-0 victory over the Mount Mercy women's soccer team on Friday at Faber Field.
The Mustangs (1-1-0) outshot the Chargers (1-0-0), 19-10, overall and had nine shots on goal compared to five for Briar Cliff. But, the Chargers only needed to capitalize once, and that's what they did, slipping one past sophomore goalkeeper Jerica Christensen after she had stopped the previous four shots on goal. Briar Cliff keeper Kalynn Sortino recorded the shutout with nine saves.
Mount Mercy wraps up its western Iowa road trip against another Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) foe, taking on Dordt on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Sioux Center.
