KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The final rankings of the 2011 season are out, and first-time national tournament qualifier Mount Mercy comes in at No. 25 in the NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Postseason Top 25 Poll.
The Mustangs finished 12-6-3 overall after losing to top-seeded and eventual national runner-up Hastings (Neb.), 2-0, in the opening round of the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship. Mount Mercy qualified for their first national tournament by winning the Midwest Collegiate Conference Tournament. It was their first tournament title, and came on the heels of their first MCC regular season championship.
Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) completed a perfect season (23-0-0) and was No. 1 in the postseason poll after defeating Hastings, 3-2, in overtime in the national championship game. Hastings (24-2-0), Baker (Kan.) (20-2-1), William Carey (Miss.) (16-4-3) and Rio Grande (Ohio) (19-3-0) rounded out the top five. Mount Mercy's MCC rival, Grand View, ended the year ranked seventh with an overall makr of 18-2-2.
