DES MOINES — Just as the Class 4A Iowa high school boys’ state soccer quarterfinals were set to kick off Tuesday night at Cownie Soccer Park, lightning struck in the area.
And no, we’re not talking about Iowa City Liberty after the Lightning’s 4-2 win over No. 1 Dallas Center-Grimes in Class 3A.
This lowercase lightning sent the four 4A games into a delay before they even kicked off. After waiting it out an hour, the Iowa High School Athletic Association announced the games were postponed to Wednesday. All will start at 7:30 p.m.
The girls’ state soccer quarterfinals are earlier Wednesday.
