Cornell College senior forward Rachel Wynn has been named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-District First Team for women's soccer, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Wynn was tabbed to the NCAA Division III top unit in District 8. She was among six women's players from the Iowa Conference chosen to the first team.
As a first team recipient, Wynn advances to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later in the month. Wynn garnered third team academic all-district accolades in 2010.
The all-academic teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. To be eligible for consideration, a player must be a starter or important reserve, have completed one full calendar year at the nominating institution and carry a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher.
Wynn is pursuing a double major in biochemistry & molecular biology and psychology. She carries a 3.816 GPA.
Wynn is a four-year letterwinner for the Rams. She finished second on the team this fall in scoring with eight points. Wynn collected three goals - two match-winners - and a pair of assists in 19 matches. She was named the IIAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 16.
