UW-Eau Claire trip wraps up regular season

Top-ranked Wartburg College ends its pre-Iowa Conference Championship preparations Saturday, Feb. 12, competing at UW-Eau Claire's Blugold Invitational. Competition begins at 9 a.m. inside the McPhee Center on UW-EC's campus.

KNIGHTS NOTES: Coach Jim Miller's 2010-11 squad ended its dual season at 19-1 with a strong 28-5 win at rival Augsburg Feb. 4. … Going into Saturday, several Knights are on individual winning streaks. Junior 197-pounder Byron Tate (Clinton)has won 42 of his last 43 matches. He and senior heavyweight John Helgerson (West Union) are tied for first on the team individual wins with 35 each. Helgerson has a 15-match win streak in tow. Senior 157-pounder Carrington Banks (Stockbridge, Ga.), has captured 21 of his last 22 matches, and senior 149-pounder Jacob Groth of Marshalltown, the reigning Iowa Conference Wrestler of the Week, has won six straight including back-to-back wins over individuals ranked ahead of him. Senior 125-pounder Mark Kist (Eagle Grove), en route to the second-most wins in the Dick Walker Wrestling Room (26), has won nine of his last 10, and sophomore 133-pounder Thomas Mirocha (Davenport) has a 14-match win streak going as part of 25 victories. … Following Saturday's tournament, Miller's squad begins preparations for the 2011 Iowa Conference Championships. The meet is set for Friday, Feb. 25, inside Cowles Fieldhouse on Simpson College's campus in Indianola.
