Sernek named IIAC Pitcher of the Week

Cornell freshman Jackie Sernek has been named the Iowa Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for the period ending April 24.

Sernek raised her season record to 7-1 with a complete-game 4-2 victory over Monmouth April 21. She also made relief appearances against Loras and Simpson and did not allow a run in either outing. Sernek finished the week with eight strikeouts and two walks while allowing just one earned run in 10.2 innings.

Sernek carries a team-low 1.38 earned run average, which ranks third among IIAC pitchers. The right-hander is tied for the team lead with six complete games and has tossed a team-best three shutouts.

The Rams (23-9 overall, 6-6 IIAC) play host to third-ranked Central (29-5, 10-2) in a 4 p.m. doubleheader Wednesday, April 27 at Mount Vernon Softball. It marks the final home games for Cornell's seniors, who will be recognized prior to the first game.
