Cornell freshman point guard Rikki Mulloy has been named Iowa Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the period ending Feb. 19.
Mulloy made a triumphant return to the lineup Saturday, scoring a career-high 29 points in leading the Rams to a 76-62 home win over Buena Vista in the regular-season finale. With the win, Cornell (9-14 overall, 7-9 IIAC) earned the No. 6 seed in the IIAC Tournament and travels to play No. 3 seed Dubuque (15-10, 10-6 IIAC) in a first-round game tonight (Tuesday, Feb. 21) in Dubuque.
Mulloy had 17 points by intermission as the Rams opened a 40-19 lead at halftime. She shot 9-of-14 from the field, knocked down five 3-point goals and made all six of her free throw attempts. Mulloy added four assists and three steals to a dynamic all-around performance.
Mulloy came back from an ankle injury that forced her to sit out Wednesday's 59-53 regular-season loss at Dubuque. Cornell beat the Spartans 54-47 on Dec. 7, 2011, in Mount Vernon. The Rams are making their first postseason appearance since 2006.
Mulloy is the IIAC's leading scorer at 16.1 points per game. She is third in the league in 3-pointers made (2.05 pg), fifth in free throw percentage (79.6) and fifth in steals (2.05 spg).
