Her sophomore season not yet complete, 6-foot-2 center Camille Marie-Lidd (Marion/Cedar Rapids Washington) vaulted into the top-10 on Cornell's career scoring list with two big offensive games last week.
Marie-Lidd averaged 23.0 points while shooting 59.3 percent from the field in leading the Rams (7-14 overall, 2-12 Iowa Conference), who fell 66-54 on the road to Luther Wednesday and dropped a 68-64 battle with Central Saturday in Mount Vernon.
Marie-Lidd poured in 23 points and hit all nine of her free throws in the weekend loss to Central. She raised her career point total to 763, only six points behind Anna Skaggs (2004-07) for ninth place on the all-time scoring chart.
The Rams, who trailed Central 31-25 at intermission, charged back and took a 62-58 lead on a conventional 3-point play by Marie-Lidd with 4:38 left to play. After the Dutch (5-19, 2-13) pulled back ahead by four points, sophomore Kathryn Schilling (Dubuque/Dubuque Senior) converted a layup that brought Cornell to within 66-64 with 43 seconds remaining.
Cornell forced the Dutch into a missed shot, gathered the rebound and called timeout with 21 seconds to go. The Rams had a game-tying shot in the lane blocked and Central then made two free throws to seal the win.
Schilling finished with 14 points, two steals, two blocks and a pair of assists. Caitlin Bisinger (Monmouth/Midland) added 11 points and four steals for the Rams, who were outrebounded 42-33. Freshman Chelsea Harris (Overland Park, Kan./Olathe East) scored nine points off the bench with three 3-point goals.
Marie-Lidd went off for 23 points and 12 rebounds – her fourth double-double of the season – against Luther, helping the Rams outscore the hosts 28-10 in points in the paint. The Norse made their hay from the foul line, connecting on 24-of-29 free throws. Cornell was 10-of-16 from the line.
Luther led 31-25 at halftime and stretched the margin to 19 points in the second half. The Norse broke open a tight game with an 18-4 spurt in the second stanza.
Bisinger put up nine points on three 3-pointers while adding four rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals. Amanda Proczak (Storm Lake/Storm Lake) came off the bench to grab five rebounds. Schilling had four steals and Valerie Berner (Monticello/Monticello) dished out four assists.
The Rams were held to 33.3 percent shooting. Luther owned a 42-33 edge on the glass.
Final week – Cornell hosts IIAC tournament-bound Loras (12-11, 8-6) Wednesday before wrapping up the season Saturday at conference co-leader Simpson. The Rams lost 62-50 in their first meeting with Loras and fell 80-54 to Simpson.
Rams in the rankings – The Rams have three individuals leading the conference in different statistical categories.
Marie-Lidd leads the IIAC in rebounding (8.2 rpg) and ranks second in scoring (15.7 ppg) and third in field goal percentage (48.4). Bisinger is tops in free throw percentage (85.7), third in 3-point goals made (2.17 pg) and fifth in 3-point percentage (38.6). Schilling is the conference leader in steals at 2.81 per game.
