Hambleton named Wrestler of the Week

Cornell senior Joe Hambleton has been named the Iowa Conference Wrestler of the Week for the period ending Nov. 27.
This is the second IIAC honor of the season for Hambleton, who entered the week ranked third at 165 pounds with a 10-2 record.
Hambleton finished 2-1 against three nationally-ranked opponents at the University of Iowa Duals Friday in Iowa City. The team captain began his day with a 7-3 victory over seventh-rated Colin Hewitt of Iowa Central. Hambleton lost by fall to Iowa's 15th-ranked Mike Evans, but came back in his final bout to post an 18-1 technical fall over eighth-ranked Nathan Sommer of Baker.
Hambleton helped lead the No. 5 Rams to a 25-9 dual win over NAIA's 15th-ranked Baker. Cornell dropped duals to NJCAA's top-ranked Iowa Central (26-12) and NCAA Division I's top-ranked Iowa (42-0).
Hambleton leads the Rams in team points (44), technical falls (3), first takedowns (9) and riding time points (7). He is among the team leaders with 31 total takedowns and nine 3-point near falls. Hambleton heads all active Rams with 92 career wins, tied for 15th on the program's all-time list.
The Rams (2-2 overall) return to action Saturday, Dec. 3 at the UW-La Crosse Candlewood Suite Duals in La Crosse, Wis. Cornell wrestles UW-Eau Claire at 9 a.m., No. 6 Saint John's at 11 a.m., and No. 21 UW-Stevens Point at 1 p.m.
