[Cross Country] Mustangs are third at Mustang Gallop

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The Mount Mercy men's and women's cross country teams each finished third at the season-opening Mustang Gallop on Saturday at Jones Park.
Senior Kara Danielsen, an NAIA national meet qualifier last year, was the top finisher for the Mustang women, placing ninth with a time of 16:30 in the women's 4K race. Sophomores Anne Bruno, Mackenzie Holladay and Wndi Dunn were also top-20 finishers. Bruno was 11th in 16:40, Holladay 18th in 17:16 and Dunn 20th in 17:24.
Senior Britney Yotter placed 25th with a time of 17:48. Junior Stephanie Nibaur was right behind her, also in 17:48, and junior Taylor Helms was 27th in 17:50. Obsie Birru of Grand Vew won the race in 14:37. Viterbo (Wis.) was the team champion with 40 points. Grand View was runner-up with 55, followed by Mount Mercy with 83, Coe with 99, NIACC with 100, Clarke with 116 and Iowa Wesleyan with 209 points.
Junior Keith Terry led the Mustang men, racing 14th in 17:40. He was just ahead of sophomore Patrick Kipkorir's 17:41. Junior Bryant Rader came in 17th in 17:50, sophomore Andre Moodie 18th in 17:53 and sophomore TJ Mosbach 19th in 17:54. Freshman Tyler Hartley finished 35th with a time of 18:52, sophomore David Carbajal 36th in 18:58.
Coe's Kyle Heineman won the men's 5K in 16:17. It was NIACC claiming the team title with 29 points, followed by Coe (32), Mount Mercy (83), Grand View (100), Viterbo (135) and Clarke (159).
Mount Mercy competes at the Iowa Intercollegiate Meet on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 11:15 a.m. at the Iowa State Cross Country Course in Ames.
