Cornell fields 21 IIAC all-academic honorees

Cornell College placed 21 student-athletes on the Iowa Conference's All-Academic Team for the 2011 fall season.
The Rams had honorees representing all eight fall sports, led by men's cross country with five all-academic performers. Cornell fielded four selections in women's cross country, three in women's soccer, two each in women's golf, women's tennis, men's soccer and football, and one in volleyball.
A total of 324 student-athletes from the IIAC's fall championship sports met the requirements for recognition. To be eligible, a student-athlete must compete at the varsity level, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and attain a 3.5 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
Cornell's academic recipients are, men's cross country: seniors Chris Stadler and Chase Nowak, juniors Scott Hageman and Jordan Kemme, sophomore Joshua Randall; women's cross country: juniors Maria Helgeson, Lauren Seemann and Leslie Smebak, sophomore Laura Ettlin; women's soccer: seniors Rachel Silverstone, Katie Wiens and Rachel Wynn; football: senior Erik Krol, junior Chris Lopez; men's soccer: sophomores Heath Brandner and Casey Gilbert; women's golf: senior Nicole Thompson, sophomore Amanda Houts; women's tennis: juniors Kara Middleton and Alyssa Zavislak; volleyball: senior Kirtley Hitt.
Stadler (men's cross country), Krol (football) and Hitt (volleyball) earned all-academic accolades for the third year in a row.
