Cornell defensive players Tyler Bailey and Myron Seabrook were recognized on the 2011 All-Iowa Conference Football Teams, released Monday.
Bailey, a senior linebacker, was selected to the league's first team defense. Seabrook, a freshman cornerback, was voted to the second team defense.
Bailey, a second team pick in 2010, is the program's 10th first team honoree in 14 years in the conference. Seabrook was the only freshman non-specialist player named to the league's top two teams this year.
Bailey, a West Branch native, led the Rams with 123 tackles and recorded an IIAC-best 17.0 tackles for loss. The 6-foot-2, 235-pounder ranked second in the conference and seventh in Division III with 12.3 tackles per game. He averaged 1.70 tackles for loss, standing 24th nationally, and had 2.5 sacks for minus-17 yards.
Bailey registered a league-high 73 solo tackles, two shy of Andy Reed's school record set in 1994. Bailey's 17.0 tackles for loss were third-most ever by a Ram, three behind Chris Gustafson's 2007 single-season mark.
Bailey reached double figures in tackles eight times this fall, with a high of 16 at IIAC runner-up Central Oct. 22 and again two weeks later at home against Luther. He opened the campaign with five tackles for loss in a Sept. 3 win at Olivet. Bailey had a career-best 13 solo stops along with 4.0 tackles for loss in the Luther game Nov. 5.
Bailey totaled 288 tackles (171 solo) in 30 career starts for the Rams. He finished with 32.5 career tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks.
Seabrook, from Oceanside, Calif., enjoyed an impressive rookie season in which he started every game. The 5-7, 175-pound Seabrook finished second in the IIAC with six interceptions and ranked 15th in Division III with 0.60 picks per game. He stood third in the league with 11 passes defended.
Seabrook snatched an interception in five consecutive games from Sept. 10-Oct. 15. His six total interceptions were three shy of the school mark. Only Dan Latimer (7 in 2003) picked off more passes in a season during Cornell's membership in the IIAC.
Seabrook finished with 32 total tackles (24 solo), including a season-high six stops at Simpson Oct. 8. He also gained 124 all-purpose yards, 35 coming off interception returns. Seabrook returned eight punts for 29 yards, and ran back five kicks for 60 yards.
Dubuque senior wide receiver Michael Zweifel was tabbed IIAC Offensive Most Valuable Player, and Luther senior linebacker Kyle McGivney the Defensive MVP. Dubuque's Stan Zweifel was recognized as Coach of the Year.
The Rams went 3-7 overall, 1-7 in the IIAC under second-year head coach Vince Brautigam. Sixteen starters are projected back next fall.
