Construction crews this week will transition to the next phase of the 42nd Street NE improvement project, and motorists should expect some disruptions.

A sidewalk was planned for protection of pedestrians on the bridge, especially students at the new Jefferson High School, which opened in the late 1950s.

Motorists can expect some impending traffic disruption near the intersection of Interstate 380 and First Avenue West in Cedar Rapids.

Work continues on the northbound exit and entrance ramps from Interstate 380.

The temporary closure will accommodate pavement marking painting.

Motorists should soon expect some delays along a portion of Eighth Street NE in Cedar Rapids. A construction project is expected to begin next week along Eighth Street between First Avenue E and A Avenue NE. The stretch of road is a busy connector from downtown Cedar Rapids to Interstate 380.

A Covington Road bridge closes today for reconstruction and other government happenings in Linn and Johnson counties.

Drivers can expect some delays and disruption at the Interstate 380 exit and entrance ramps at Boyson Road in Hiawatha, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Manchester construction office.

Closure is to allow for work on Penn Street Interchange reconstruction project

The state’s five-year plan for transportation infrastructure features billions of dollars in planned investments in Iowa road, bridge, aviation and railway infrastructure, construction and repair projects.

Ongoing construction work on 42nd Street NE will close a portion of the road to through traffic beginning Thursday, and lasting approximately 10 weeks.

One lane of eastbound Collins Road NE is closed, from Rockwell Drive NE to C Avenue NE. The city has modified the traffic signal timing and will monitor the signals to “minimize traffic delays.” Drivers also are encouraged to find different routes around the area.

Work to replace the roadway on 42nd Street NE will begin Monday, disrupting normal traffic flows in the area. Construction is expected to last into November.

The Court Street reconstruction project is set to begin in early 2025 and end in 2027.
