Sweetie’s Ice Cream Parlor opens in Czech Village in Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS — The ice cream arm of the new candy shop in the Czech Village is finally open.
Sweetie’s Ice Cream Parlor, an extension of Sweet Mercantile on the corner of 16th Ave. SW and C Street SW, opened May 5 for candy, sodas, ice cream, milkshakes, floats and sundaes.
“We kind of wanted it to be like the dime store,” owner Mary Kay McGrath, who was raised near the Czech Village, told The Gazette in October before the candy shop opened. “There used to be two or three soda fountains in the Czech Village.”
The parlor features a 1920s soda bar, built in Dubuque and curated for an old-fashioned aesthetic.
