Starbucks opens new Cedar Rapids location

CEDAR RAPIDS — Starbucks has opened a new location in Cedar Rapids just as the “holiday cup” season starts.

The Seattle-based coffee giant opened a new location at 3214 First Ave. NE early in the week of Nov. 17, 2024.

The new construction on the corner of First Avenue and 32nd Street NE — just across from The Irish Democrat — replaces a vacant building that served as a Hardee’s until summer of 2021. Construction began earlier this year.

The site is the third Starbucks on First Avenue alone, after its locations in the Wellington Heights and Lindale Crossing areas, both of which will remain open.

With the new location, it now has 15 shops across Cedar Rapids and Marion, about half of which are located inside Hy-Vee and Target stores. The majority of stores are located across First Avenue, Blairs Ferry Road and Edgewood Road.

Hardee’s shrinking footprint leaves two locations in the city — one on Blairs Ferry Road NE and one on 29th Avenue SW.
