MARION — Short’s Burger & Shine has closed its only location outside of Iowa City.
It’s unclear what day the burger staple, 780 11th St., closed. The restaurant’s status on its social media page and Google listings was changed to “permanently closed” about a week ago.
The Uptown Marion restaurant and bar did make any announcements before its sudden closure.
Short’s will be auctioning off its equipment, according to a listing with Backes Auctioneers. The online auction starts on Feb. 20, with items available for in-person viewing on Feb. 19.
The restaurant, which started in Iowa City in 2008, opened its Marion location in October 2019 under managing partner Chevy Bushaw and owner Kevin Perez. It was known for its burgers, named on the Marion menu after towns with populations of 1,000 or less, and its signature sauce.
Short’s remains open at two locations in Iowa City: downtown at 18 S. Clinton St., and on the east side at 521 Westbury Dr.
Harold’s Chicken opens in Cedar Rapids
CEDAR RAPIDS — Harold’s Chicken has opened again in Cedar Rapids.
The Chicago-based fried chicken franchise quietly opened earlier this month before its grand opening on Feb. 12.
The new opening, 4330 16th Ave. SW, fills the vacancy left by Highway 30 Diner.
The new franchise, which brings Harold’s Chicken back to Cedar Rapids after a long absence, is under different ownership than the last franchise that was located here. The franchise’s last stint in Cedar Rapids opened at the Roosevelt building downtown in 2017.
