CEDAR RAPIDS — Treasured flavors from the Old World will once again return to the Czech Village.
The Old World Christmas Market on Dec. 6 and 7 will feature a convergence of Czech and Slovak food, delicious holiday treats, entertainment and the holiday vendor market at the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library.
Inspired by traditional European Christmas markets, the free event will run 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7. Museum galleries will be open with free admission throughout the weekend.
Shop handcrafted items from local artisans at the vendor market, visit Svatý Mikuláš (Saint Nicholas,) or get a taste of Christmas from central and Eastern Europe at the Kolache Cafe throughout the weekend.
This year’s food vendors include French Pastry by Sandrine, Pickle Creek Herbs, Antler Ridge Elk Ranch, Hue Hill, Lori Ann’s Candies, CR Breads and Grimm’s Farm.
The Cookie Walk will open on Saturday at 9:30 a.m., where patrons can buy sweet treats by the pound while supplies last.
On Sunday, visit the Jiruska Gallery for family holiday crafts, buy raffle tickets for the Czech Heritage Foundation wreath or take authentic Czech and Slovak foods to enjoy at home.
Following the weekend event, a traditional duck dinner will be available from Jiřina's Kitchen on Tuesday, Dec. 9. Jiřina, a New York chef, previously served authentic Czech and Slovak fare at the museum’s BrewNost. Tickets are $35 for members, $45 for non-members.
