CEDAR RAPIDS — A popular barbecue vendor at NewBo City Market has plans for a much larger space opening soon.
After two years in the small-business incubator, the vendor known for its brisket, ribs and pulled pork will be moving to Cedar River Landing’s building. The bar and grill at 301 F Ave. NW, known for its live entertainment, announced plans to close on Dec. 20.
Cedar River Landing’s last day open will be Dec. 25.
“Cedar River Landing holds some great memories for a lot of you and we want to sincerely THANK YOU for all the love and support,” the owners said in a social media post.
Midnight Smoker’s last day open in NewBo City Market was Sunday, Dec. 22. Owner Greg Stoll said he’ll take possession of the new location in early January for contractors to remodel.
The barbecue restaurant will reopen in mid to late February with an expanded menu, including more opportunities for specials, burgers, and their specialties like ribs and pork loins.
Stoll said the decision was prompted by the restaurant’s continuous growth since it first opened in October 2022. High demand and limited storage space has put a damper on the business’ ability to fulfill growing catering orders.
“We’ve completely outgrown NewBo City Market,” Stoll said. “We run out of food every single day, just because we can’t order enough to hold for a whole week.”
The new location, about 3,500 square feet, will continue to feature live entertainment, like its predecessor, especially in the summer.
