Insomnia Cookies opens Cedar Rapids location

CEDAR RAPIDS — A national cookie chain dedicated to late-night sweets is opening a Cedar Rapids location this week.
Insomnia Cookies, known at many places for its proximity to college campuses, has a new location at 151 First Ave. SW, Suite 102 — next to Aroma Artisan Pizza in the new Kingston Yard development.
A representative at the Cedar Rapids site said it hopes to open by Friday, Dec. 20.
The bakery is Insomnia’s fifth in Iowa, after opening in Ames, near Iowa State University, and Iowa City, near the University of Iowa. The Cedar Rapids location is somewhat unique in its positioning — the nearest college, Coe College, is almost two miles away.
The Cedar Rapids site will be open for pickup and delivery of cookies, ice cream and cake as late as 3 a.m. on weekends, or 1 a.m. on weeknights.
