Hiawatha cupcake bakery moves to new Cedar Rapids location

CEDAR RAPIDS — An established Hiawatha bakery is moving down the road to Cedar Rapids.

That One Cupcake Place, whose specialties include flavors like Almond Happy, Oh Monster Dough and Red Velvet, anticipates an Oct. 1 opening at 1121 Blairs Ferry Rd. NE, Suite 300 — where Kidcreate Studio used to be.

But Cedar Rapids is nothing new for this cupcakery. Owner Teresa Pinkerton started it at NewBo City Market in 2012. She opened the Hiawatha location, 766 N. Center Point Rd., in April 2015.

Using a Depression-era family recipe, the family-owned business went from taking small orders and selling out at farmers markets to opening at NewBo City Market.

With increased demand, they decided to exit the small business incubator to focus on their Hiawatha location in 2018.
