IOWA CITY — Hazzard County is bringing a little more country to a second city in the Corridor.
The popular “American Saloon” country-themed bar in downtown Cedar Rapids has announced plans for a second location on the Ped Mall at 118 S. Dubuque St.
The Johnson County expansion plans to open Aug. 1.
“Although the space is smaller than the Cedar Rapids location, it will have a very similar country bar vibe,” the bar said in a social media announcement. “The plan is to have lots of TVs for watching games, of course.”
Hazzard County first opened at 329 Second Ave. SE in Cedar Rapids in 2012. Six years later, it relocated down the street to 402 Second Ave. SE, where it nearly doubled in size to 8,372 square feet with a beer garden, dance floor, larger restrooms and general seating area.
Its new Iowa City location was previously home to Fieldhouse Bar. It’s unclear when or why Fieldhouse closed its Dubuque Street location.
Their social media was active until the end of April, and no closure or move was publicly announced.
Fieldhouse started at 111 E. College St. in 1975. It moved to the Ped Mall in or around 2011, according to the Daily Iowan.
