CORALVILLE — A Coralville brewery has acquired Knoxville’s Peace Tree Brewing, several months after its closure.
Backpocket Brewing announced the acquisition of Peace Tree on Nov. 6. The agreement will ensure that one of Peace Tree’s most beloved beers, the award-winning Blonde Fatale, remains in Iowa’s craft beer scene.
“Taking on Peace Tree Brewing’s production is an incredible opportunity for us,” said Aaron Vargas, owner of Backpocket Brewing. “This acquisition not only enhances our offerings, but also allows us to carry forward the hard work and dreams of the Peace Tree Brewing team, whose passion for Iowa craft beer has inspired many.”
Peace Tree Brewing ended operations in June, after 15 years in business.
“My commitment has always been to create exceptional beers that resonate with our community and beyond,” said Megan McKay, Peace Tree’s former owner. “Selling to Backpocket Brewing allows Peace Tree’s legacy to live on, ensuring that our cherished brands will be continued to be enjoyed.”
Blonde Fatale, the brewery’s legacy brand, was awarded a gold medal at the 2014 World Beer Cup and was recognized by Untappd Community Awards as a top American-made Belgian-style blonde ale in 2023.
Production of the 8.5 percent ABV beer is underway and will be available in mid-November. Other Peace Tree brands will be reintroduced to the market later, as well.
