Chick-fil-A planning new Cedar Rapids location

CEDAR RAPIDS — A public hearing has been set to start the process of rezoning an area in northeast Cedar Rapids for a new Chick-fil-A location.

The applicant and owner of the property, First Assembly of God Church, is requesting the hearing to rezone 1.69 acres at 3233 Blairs Ferry Rd. NE.

The request is to change zoning to Suburban Mixed Use Community Center Zone District. Its current designation in the Future Land Use Map is for Urban Medium Intensity.

After the public hearing on Dec. 19, two additional readings of the ordinance by the City Council will be required before the rezoning is approved, per state law.

The location would be Cedar Rapids’ third, after 217 Collins Rd. NE near Lindale Mall opened in 2012, and 2610 Edgewood Rd. SW near Westdale Town Center, which opened in 2015.
