Chew on This: O’s Grill food truck opening restaurant in Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS — O’s Grill, a popular food truck option in Cedar Rapids, has announced plans to open a permanent location in northeast Cedar Rapids.

In a social media post, owner Otmane Benjilany posted a photo of a “Coming Soon” sign at its new location, 3911 Center Point Rd. NE.

Benjilany told The Gazette he hopes to open the new location by mid-October.

O’s Grill is known for its gyros, falafel and Mediterranean options.

O’s first announced its intent to open a permanent restaurant location in early August.

“When I came to America — I had the dream of opening my own restaurant. My first step in this journey was to start with a food cart (and those who have been eating O’s for a while remember the little food cart, I pulled with my Alero),” Benjilany wrote. "From there we grew into the food trailer you know today. The food trailer was a great step in the right direction as it has allowed us to travel beyond Cedar Rapids to neighboring cities. My passion for cooking has only grown and my desire to own my own restaurant is even more apparent — and now O’s Grill is ready to take the next leap!“

Vivian’s Soul Food featured on TV

Vivian’s Soul Food was been featured with Chef Andrew Zimmern on Magnolia’s “Family Dinner.”

Zimmern joined the Smallwood family, owners of Vivian’s Soul Food and Vivian’s Express Grill in Cedar Rapids, according to a Sept. 11 post on the restaurant’s social media.

The episode of Family Dinner is available to stream on Discovery+.
