CEDAR RAPIDS — A new restaurant is spending its first Thanksgiving by giving back to those in need, and is asking for the public’s help to make it happen.
Juicy Crab Island, 1323 First Ave. SE, will be hosting “Pay It Forward,” a Thanksgiving dinner for those experiencing homelessness or housing instability, from noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27.
Owner Jacinta Ingram is asking the community to help pitch in to make it a success. To host the dinner on with a goal of serving about 100 people, she’s asking for donations of the following:
- Whole turkeys
- Hams
- Boxed stuffing mix
- Store-bought desserts
- Beverages
- Disposable Styrofoam containers for food
- Paper plates
- Canned goods, and sealed, shelf-stable store-bought food
Donations will be accepted between 3 and 7 p.m. from Nov. 19 through Nov. 25 at the restaurant, 1323 First Ave. SE. For questions or more information, contact Ingram at (319) 362-3746.
“I am passionate about assisting homeless individuals, knowing everyone faces hardships and needs support to recognize their situation’s potential for change,” Ingram said. “Helping them is a source of personal pride and fulfillment.”
The menu for diners will include turkey, ham, chicken, stuffing, collard greens, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, green beans and potato salad. Pumpkin pie, chocolate cake and fruitcake will be available for dessert.
