CEDAR RAPIDS — A taste of New Orleans is setting up shop in Cedar Rapids.
Cafe Beignets, a new shop from owners Carl and Tammy Stewart, is planning an Oct. 1 opening at Lindale Mall.
The menu, centered on Louisiana’s signature fried dough covered in a heap of powdered sugar, described beignets as “a funnel cake” that tastes “so much better.” The café’s other signatures include glazed beignets, buttermilk drops, caramel cake, and variations of treats decorated like the colorful king cake — another New Orleans signature popular around Mardi Gras.
The vendor’s brick-and-mortar location at the mall’s food court, 4444 First Ave. NE, comes after appearances over the summer at the Cedar Rapids Downtown Farmers Market.
