Barrel House opens downtown Cedar Rapids location

CEDAR RAPIDS — Barrel House opened its second Corridor location in downtown Cedar Rapids on May 2.

The new location at 102 Second St. SE, the former location of La Cantina Bar & Grill, comes after much anticipation and the opening of their Marion location in December.

Last June, founder Jimmy Holt said the growing local chain decided on the Cedar Rapids location after recognizing the effects COVID-19 had on the downtown area, where it left a void of restaurant options.

“We saw an opportunity to be at the forefront of the recovery and hope others will follow,” Holt said.

The small Iowa chain, first established in 2011, also has two locations in Davenport and one in Dubuque. It offers an upscale twist to tavern food, including burgers and fries, signature sauces, sandwiches, wraps and tacos, alongside Iowa-brewed beers and specialty cocktails.
