Aroma Artisan Pizza plans second location in Kingston Village development

Jun. 26, 2024 6:15 am
CEDAR RAPIDS — A NewBo City Market pizza shop is expanding for the first time since debuting almost seven years ago.
Aroma Artisan Pizza, opened by Carol Elliott and her family in 2017, soon will have a second location in the new Kingston Yard development across the river.
The new spot at 151 First Ave. SW, Suite 100, will focus on counter service with seating for 25 in a 2,200-square-foot build-out. With patio seating and proximity to the development’s entertainment and performance stage, the ground floor restaurant will be one of the closest to Pickle Palace.
The business tentatively plans to open the storefront in September. Its NewBo City Market location will remain open.
In addition to Aroma’s signature wood-fired pizzas, the new location’s menu will feature some of the same treats the family business serves at Luna Gelato in NewBo Market. With a larger space, Aroma plans to branch out with a deck oven capable of making larger pies, which will allow them to offer individual slices to-go.
New services have been added each year since opening in 2017, so Elliott said the move was the “next logical step” for the growing business, after deploying a mobile pizza unit, catering and the gelato shop.
“The market is a place where people gather and enjoy themselves, and we think it’ll be similar at the new location,” Elliott said.
The spot was chosen, in part, for its good view of the stage, and a playground out front for families.
“It’s fun to keep dreaming and attaining those things,” she said.
