Ian Hoover-Grinde, Ron Gierut are triathlon national champs

OMAHA — Cedar Rapids' Ian Hoover-Grinde and Ron Gierut captured Olympic-division titles at the USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships this weekend at Levi Carter Park.
A sophomore-to-be at Iowa State, Hoover-Grinde repeated as the 19-and-under male champion with a time of 1 hour, 57 minutes, 51 seconds. He was second overall in the men's Olympic race that features a 1,500-meter swim, a 40-kilometer bike and a 10-kilometer run.
Gierut was the 60-to-64 men's winner in 2:16.11.
