CEDAR RAPIDS - Officers are investigating two overnight shooting incidents - one in Wellington Heights that left one person injured and another in the northeast neighborhood of Moundview.
According to the Cedar Rapids Police Department, a 36-year-old man showed up Mercy Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the arm at 5 a.m. Wednesday.
Based on the preliminary investigation, public safety spokesperson Greg Buelow said the shooting is believed to have occurred in the 1400 block of Seventh Avenue SE. Police did not identify the man with the gunshot wound.
In a second incident about 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, officers were handling a call about an intoxicated man lying in the road near 16th Street NE and B Avenue NE when shots were fired about a block away.
Buelow said officers responded just before 8 p.m. to the 1700 block of A Avenue near 17th Street NE. There, he said, officers found the back window of a vehicle shot out and several shell casings.
Buelow said it's possible the gunfire was directed toward a specific house, but declined to specify which one.
No suspects have been identified in either incident and the investigations are ongoing, Buelow said.
