The Iowa Photo: Little joys

The Iowa Photo: Little joys

Even though we often cover heavy topics, I make it a point to look for joy. Even if it falls outside the scope of an assignment, I try to find the little moments or slices of life that make me smile. It may not be groundbreaking photojournalism, but happiness and joy is worth capturing.

While I was on an assignment about accessory dwelling units, the developer brought her daughters Cece, 4, and Mimi, 5, to the job site while she and her husband installed light fixtures. While photographing the couple hard at work, it was hard to ignore the precociousness of the two girls as they safely explored the construction site. Watching someone experience something new is one of the highlights of what I do and one of the purest forms of joy.
