The CyHawk game — it should be a statewide holiday at this point.

It’s a game I have thoroughly enjoyed covering since I began working at The Gazette. The colors, the buzz around the stadium and the long lines of students that gather hours before the gates open bring an extra level of excitement to a college football Saturday.

One thing I enjoy about Iowa State is their field access and having the ability to get closer to the team. This allows me to work a variety of perspectives as the team runs out or warms up on the field.

With a crisp blue sky and a sea of red, I decided to shoot upwards at the players to highlight the theatrical pyrotechnics used.

I shot around 50-60 photos of the team running out to get the players evenly dispersed while lining up with the streams of sparks and fire. For me, this photo represents some of the electric energy the CyHawk game has to offer.
