The Iowa Photo: Airport ink blot

“I love photographing silhouettes and reflections. When I saw the opportunity to combine two of my loves into one photograph, I had to make the picture,” said Jim Slosiarek, visuals editor at The Gazette.

“I knew I wanted a low camera angle to accentuate the reflections off the polished flooring. It also cleaned up the background of some distracting elements behind the passengers. The flip-out screen on my camera helped me get the composition I wanted. In the past, I’d have to point the camera in the general direction, fire off a few frames and pray I got what I envisioned.

“I like the symmetry of the scene. It reminds me of a Rorschach ink blot test.”
